Making Easy Read

What can you turn into Easy Read?

Almost anything. Working together, we can produce Easy Read documents on a huge range of subjects – the list below is by no means exhaustive:

  • Healthcare services

  • Housing services

  • Social care

  • Transport services

  • Other council services

  • Accessible services

  • Public consultation

  • Information and advice produced by government agencies

  • Information and marketing material produced by banks, cinemas, shops and other businesses

If you want to find out how we could help your organisation make its information more accessible please send us a message.

Everything you wanted to know about Easy Read but were afraid to ask…

What is Easy Read?

Easy-Read is a visual format. It's a storyboard of a document, so it should tell a story like a film or video. We work with your users to ensure your organisation provides information that is inclusive and accessible.

What is co-production?

Co-production is all about bringing experts by experience - people with a learning disability and autistic people - together with the authors of the original document to achieve inclusive communication.

That’s what we do, week in, week out with our clients.

What is accessible design?

We also understand the importance of using white space and typography to increase the accessibility and read-ability of our Easy Read documents.

What is an Easy Read workshop?

An in-depth discussion of a draft Easy Read document.

Our experts by experience read every line and look at every image in the draft Easy Read document.

Creative and collaborative, EasyRead+ workshops often include new ideas sparking off ideas and new sentences, phrases or images emerging from a group conversation.

How do I join an Easy Read workshop?

All our Easy Read workshops are held on the Zoom video conferencing platform, which makes it easy for anyone to take part.

Content authors and those interested in inclusive communication are positively encouraged to join the EasyRead+ co-production workshops. Take part and learn, too.

What is a pre-workshop?

When you are transcribing lengthy or complex documents, a 30 or 60-minute pre-workshop can help to speed up the editing process.

What stays in? What goes thrown out?

You help us decide before we embark on the full-blown Easy Read transcription.
